The Field of Hammocks
Since 1985, people have been traveling to Osmosis Day Spa Sanctuary in Freestone, California, to experience the unique Cedar Enzyme baths. Now, there’s a whole new reason to visit this beloved and relaxing spot—hammocks—but not just any old hammocks. Michael Stusser, founder of Osmosis, recently introduced The Field of Hammocks, a relaxation area positioned creek-side in a previously unused portion of the day spa’s rustic five acres. And guests are loving it.
Consisting of six “oversized, cushioned, dream-inducing swinging cloud chairs,” as Stusser describes them, The Field of Hammocks is also home to four Zero Gravity chairs and giant umbrellas for shade. To make it even more relaxing, guests are given MP3 players loaded with a selection of special healing Hemi-Synch sound therapies. “This metamusic balances the left and right hemispheres of the brain,” explains Stusser. “People have profound relaxation experiences by lapsing into deep states of rest fairly quickly. This is the realm where we access the subconscious mind, the source of insight, inspiration, and intuition.”
In today’s sleep-deprived world, The Field of Hammocks is a dream come true.
Just how did the space come to be? Stusser asked a focus group of his best clients what they most wanted from their spa experience. The unanimous answer was a place to rest after their treatments. Because there wasn’t any more additional indoor space that could be developed, they suggested hammocks. “A field of hammocks at that,” notes Stusser. “Guests love it. They really drop into a deeper level of relaxation. We’re seeing huge smiles on their faces, and the metamusic is a great extra touch.”
In today’s sleep-deprived world, The Field of Hammocks is a dream come true. “Sleep is a fundamental need the body has in order to regenerate its vital forces,” says Stusser. “The hammock experience is helping our guests awaken to how important adequate rest is to one’s health. It really has an obvious and profound healing effect.”
